UFES Schedule Update – May 6, 2024
UFES Project Schedule for May 6, 2024 – June 3, 2024
We’re making great construction progress toward pollution prevention in San Mateo. The recent rainy season reminds all of us why our 10-year, $1 billion Clean Water Program is so essential to the future of our City.
One of the most important projects in the program is our Underground Flow Equalization System (UFES).
As a follower to this newsletter, you know that construction of our 53-million-gallon UFES at the County Event Center is nearing completion. Once completed, it will temporarily hold excess wastewater during storms.
The following construction work is planned for the UFES project from May 6, 2024 through June 3, 2024. (Please note, schedules can change. We will issue this update in the first full week of every month through Spring 2024.)
- Inside the Event Center Site: Contractor has begun paving.
- S. Delaware Street: Major traffic pattern changes are complete; however, occasional minor traffic inconveniences may continue until the project is complete.
- Saratoga Drive: There will be some continued traffic impacts related to landscape restoration.
- Bay Meadows Park: construction of the retaining wall near Bay Meadows Park is complete. Contractors are installing a fence separating the UFES site from the entrance driveway.
- The wall and landscaping along Saratoga Drive is complete. Installation of the new access gate will follow.
Although not anticipated, alerts will be sent via newsletter and text message ahead of any remaining work requiring significant traffic updates or work hour changes at the County Event Center site.
The City anticipates that the UFES project in its entirety, including work at the County Event Center site, will conclude in Summer 2024. Once the project is complete, it will be able to reduce the sanitary sewer overflows that result from excessive rainfall, which the community may have witnessed during the recent storms.
