UFES Schedule Update – August 5, 2024
UFES Project Schedule for August 5, 2024 Through Remainder of Project
We’ve made great construction progress toward pollution prevention in San Mateo. The recent rainy season reminds all of us why our 10-year, $1 billion Clean Water Program is so essential to the future of our City.
One of the most important projects in the program is our Underground Flow Equalization System (UFES).
As a follower to this newsletter, you know that construction of our 53-million-gallon UFES at the County Event Center is nearing completion. Once completed, it will temporarily hold excess wastewater during storms.
The following construction work is planned for the UFES project from August 5, 2024 through project completion. (Please note, this will be our final schedule update for the UFES project.)
- Inside the Event Center Site: The final site work will be completed in the next few weeks.
- S. Delaware Street: Major traffic pattern changes are complete; however, occasional minor traffic inconveniences may continue until the project is complete.
- Saratoga Drive: There will be some continued traffic impacts related to landscape restoration. The new Saratoga entrance will be completed.
- The wall and landscaping along Saratoga Drive is complete. Installation of the new access gate is complete.
Although not anticipated, alerts will be sent via newsletter and text message ahead of any remaining work requiring significant traffic updates or work hour changes at the County Event Center site.
The City anticipates that the UFES project in its entirety, including work at the County Event Center site, will conclude in Summer 2024. Once the project is complete, it will be able to reduce the sanitary sewer overflows that result from excessive rainfall, which the community may have witnessed during the recent storms.
